Each Sunday morning during Terms 1, 3 and 4, ELT run a performing arts session for youth members in the Rehearsal Room at ELT. There are no sessions in Term 2 as this is when we put on a youth musical. For performing arts sessions we encourage children from ages 8 – 16 to join. In our youth shows the age ranges are 10 – 18. In 2016 our numbers grew to 60 members so there were two groups formed. The first group was from 9 am – 11 am. The second group was from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm. Both groups were together from 10:30 am – 11 am. The sessions are run by John Leahy (ELT member) and Merinda Gallagher (ELT member). They involve the following:
Learning songs from popular children’s shows such as Annie, Oliver, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Pirates of Penzance, etc. The songs are learnt as a group and music and lyrics are uploaded at no cost (parents provide a USB drive or similar).
The group will be exposed to all aspects of theatre craft such as performance/acting techniques, script reading, choice of songs for auditions, audition and show preparation, costumes, backstage, lighting, make-up, etc. We hope to have guest speakers and helpers, when available, to assist when possible.
Members will be encouraged to learn and sing solo pieces as much as possible to develop their confidence and skills and better prepare them to audition for shows. Solo singing is not compulsory but is certainly encouraged.
The group may be asked to perform at functions throughout the year for schools or community groups and at the end of the year we will put together a Christmas Concert to entertain family and members.
There is no cost to being in this group – you only have to be a member of ELT or become a member.
Youth Membership is $15
Second Youth Family Member is $10
Parent Membership (for parents of youth production participants only) is $10
